Short-term Factorio-adjacent job, bike path intersection park - 2019-12-26 - TOGoS's Journal

Either I had left JHT for a new job in a very similar building, or JHT was the new job that I had left to after working only a short time somewhere else (I guess that's how I feel about my time working for Factorio). The new boss was giving me a tour of the warehouse just outside the Dells.

I had worked briefly for a small company that did Factorio-adjacent stuff. They were up on floor 4 of a small octagonal building. It had the same 'small company' feeling that I got from Prism or those dreamed-up companies south of the Beltline. We would sometimes hang out in a small windowless conference room (which reminded me of the lecture hall in the corner of the Humanities Building where SA/DSA had that joint meeting that one time) and talk through technical problems, which I was remembering somewhat fondly.

I was at a place (of work?) and needed a break.

This place was like a city park the edge of the city, bordered along 2 sides by a highway. In the park was a 3-way bike path intersection that divided the park into secions. One section, bordered by the highway, had a pond. The next (clockwise) has a shelter, and beyond that a few trees. The last actually had some woods, which presumably had some residential neighborhood behind them.

Notes from my phone. The path sections went (top) back into town, (lower-right) 'northwest', off into the country, and (lower left) 'south', off into the country a different way, I guess. I should have drawn more trees in the top-left section.

So anyway, I wanted to go for a walk, so I aked my friend, who was maybe Jason or Abe, if they'd come along, and they were like give my five minutes and then sure. So I spent that 5 minutes (A) making sure I had my water bottle, and (B) deciding which direction I wanted to go. I think the 'south' path was still somewhat mysterious to me and I didn't feel in the right mood to properly appreciate a brand new direction. And so I decided to go on the 'northwest' path.

That took us under the highway, and soon onto a very long, straight segment, slightly raised from the ground around it (somewhat reminiscent of the section of the Military Ridge trail between Verona and Riley). The wind was in our faces as we travelled. Eventually the long straight part came to a 'boring town'. The path went into a grocery store mall thing, and then a Japanese bar/restaurant, where it made a 90 degree turn to the left. We decided to turn around at that point, and then spent some time exploring the interface between the bar and the grocery store, which kind of blended into each other, now.

I think I came back to the park and was still somewhat bored. I looked at the ripples in the pond near the path.
