Plane Coloring Room, VS Code Frustration - 2026-08-02 - TOGoS's Journal

Was remembering / re-living the plane trip to Florida when I was five. Katie (Bev and Jerry Nelson's granddaughter who is about my age) was with us. Us kids got to hang out in a special room on the plane to do coloring and got a special coloring lesson from some guy. We didn't realize at the time how expensive that must have been.

Was looking at some shitty Java code at work. Wanted to do some refactoring but didn't feel like fixing up all the call sites manually so I wanted to make CoPilot do it, but I couldn't find the CoPilot pane in VS Code.

First it was because I was in an old version of VS Code that didn't have it at all. It had blue borders between panes (probably looking like an old version of Eclipse). It reminded me of simpler times. It was comfy.

Then I restarted into new, gray VS Code. I spent some time trying to find 'AI' in the menus before I remembered that it's a pane over on the right side of the screen that you just have to resize until it's useable. But dragging the border wasn't working, and I was getting increasingly frustrated. Then I woke up.
