Free hotel breakfast! - 2009-01-09 07:30 - Entry 1071 - TOGoS's Journal

Thursday morning I dreampt that I was moving into my old bedroom in my parents' basement. This room was actually an addition to the basement that was dug ino the dirt, and the bed in was a little enclosed place dug out even further, connected to the room with a square cut in the concrete wall (as if the room was dug and concrete poured, and then the bed was yet another afterthought). I was hanging out down there thinking about where I might put my stuff. I layed down on the matress, which was covered with a plastic sheet, but it felt really dirty so I got out and turned the light on. Above the bed was a mess of spiderwebs and big gross spiders. I was surprised (but glad) that I had gotten in and out without putting my head right through the middle of it. I figured all the dirt on the bed was spider droppings.

Later I was out with some Hoofers sailing around on Lake Mendota. I guess we had borrowed the boats from the sailing club. We had 3 people on our boat - me and some dude and a lady who sat in the back steering the sail by holding onto a rope in each hand and leaning. We went really fast and got to the north side of the lake where we found a creek and maybe got out and explored a bit.

Pitt and I are in La Crosse again to have meetings with Schweser people. I plan to meet with a bunch of developers today to talk about 'standardizing the deployment process'. They've moved to the top floor of a building in downtown La Crosse, and there's actually a pretty nice view of the town and the river from there.

On Thursday night we went to a Japanese restaurant and ate 70$ of Sushi. Then we came back to a new hotel. Since we're in downtown La Crosse now instead of in Onalaska, we're not staying at Stoney Creek Inn anymmore. Now we're staying at Brookstone, which is funny because the other night I was thinking how funny it would be if instead of staying at Stoney Creek we ended up staying at a place called "Rocky Brook". My funny was actually a pretty close prediction.

Back at the hotel I worked on YC's paper for a while before I realized that I could connect to their wireless internet. Then I told YC over meebo that I had been working n her paper. Then I tried to go to sleep, but didn't want to mess up the blankets so I slept with them tucked around the side of the mattress, which wasn't all that cozy and I kept waking up because I was cold. I dreampt that a couple of guys in suits were hanging around the hotel looking for a new office and came into my room and found my so cold that I couldn't move. They turned the heat on and I thawed out, but wen I got downstairs it was 11:28 and I had missed the free breakfast. Meanwhile, the 2 suited guys (one of whom was now wheelchair-bound) were exploring the basement of the hotel. They found a large room with double-sized steps that led down into into an area of the room that was about the same but twice as tall because the floor was much lower. The guy in the wheelchair realized that this was the flight of stairs that he had fallen down to injure himself in such a way that he needed a wheelchair. At this poing his friend accidentally pushed him down the steps again. He rolled and bounched to the bottom while a bunch of people gasped and a particular old lady was telling at the pusher what an idiot he was. Then the guy that had fallen down the stairs started to get up. He stood up and realized that falling down the stairs had bonked things back into place so that he could stand again, and everyone sort of celebrated.

I headed down to see if I could scrounge any remaining free breakfast and ended up with some cheese and crackers. I got on my bike and went down to the big stepped room. At the far, deep end of the room there was a doorway to a tunnel. This tunnel had a few turnoffs into other tunnels, but the way I went came out into a hilly field. Mom and Dawne and the kids and YC were there building a big snow man in front of a wooden tower. The snow man was almost as tall as the tower, and it was very impressive. They had me walk away a bit and take a picture of them all hanging off the snow man. Maybe some of them were standing on stilts.

Another exit to the hotel tunnel was near the stadium, pointing south west so that it joined up with the bike path. Danielle was escaping from her crazy mom in Arkansas again, and this time she was r through a sewer tunnel while some thugs chased after her. There were enough different offshoots from the tunnel that she was able to lose them. She was trying to escape to the part of the tunnel that I had discovered earlier in the dream.

Finally, we were out of a particular kind of raspberry flavored cereal that I liked, and I was about to order more over the internet. One box of this stuff tended to last a long time because I didn't eat it very fast. On the web page they showed many different varieties, and I was trying to figure out which kind I had gotten before. The difference seemed to be the size and shape of the little ceral raspberries, which were also encased in a 'bun' (same cereal but uncolored and not raspberry flavored) to different degrees. Some of them were shaped to look like a mushroom with a raspberry stem, and others looked like a cracked egg with a raspberry inside. One of them was sort of tall and the raspberry was denser so that it was more like candy than cereal. As I woke up I decided that it was dumb and a waste of time to be looking at that web page.

I woke up at 7:00 so I had time to go eat hotel breakfast, which was OK but not as good as Stoney Creek breakfast. We went back to Schweser and had more meetings before heading back to Madison at about 15:00.
