Restless sleep - 2015-01-05 - Entry 1375 - TOGoS's Journal

Previous night's dreams:

I was walking or driving (actually I think I had parked somewhere and
having a little bit of trouble finding my way back to the car) around
some residential neighborhood near Chicago. This walk took me to a
park bordering Lake Michigan. I think I was trying to hid something
and also trying to avoid a couple of guys that I knew were in the area
while also attempting to meet up with Shaina and Melody.

My girlfriend was out east, in like Ohio or New York or something.
The drive to go visit her didn't seem like it would take that long (I
always imagined it like a trip to Milwaukee), but I knew that in
reality it was a 20-hour drive or so. There was a mountain range
about half way between, and a lot of flat interstate, too, memories of
which I had involving passing semi trucks, getting passed by semi
trucks, and turning off offramps to go to gas stations.

In my imaginary imaginary 'short' version of the route, the mountains
were so close that they were visible from the east side of Madison,
but in imaginary reality you had to go a bit farther before you would
see any sign of them.

There was a northern route that avoided Chicago by going east from
Wisconsin, then south. There was no Lake Michigan.

According to my Fitbit I spent a good hour or so tossing and turning
this morning. I attribute this to being stuck at the edge od the bed
and having trouble finding a spot both comfy and stable. I had lots of dreams.

I was on a road trip from the southeast back to Wisconsin. 101.5
from Madison was one of the few radio stations I could pick up
clearly, so I listened to it.

I was with, like, my graduating class from high school or something.
It was a big group of people my same age, anyway, and we were in this,
like, I want to say banquet hall, but it wasn't that big. And there
were little rooms off to the side of the main hall, sort of like
offices at EIT, in that they had windows and the doors were open so
you could see in and out easily. Some people were hanging out in
there, talking and sipping champagne. There was a smaller group
hanging out on the back porch and going for snowy night time hikes on
some trail behind the place. I think I was coming and going a lot,
and maybe I wasn't dressed especially warmly, because people started
calling me "crazy Dan".

That building was on a relatively flat section of what was otherwise a
very hilly (a la Minecraft's 'extreme hills' biome) shore of an
oddly-shaped lake. Oddly-shaped enough that looking across it from
halfway up one of the bluffs, it wasn't obvious where this lake ended
and the next one (which may have been a bay connected to the ocean)
began. This bluff had some walkways cut into it and a human cannon
pointed the long way across the lake, such that the banquet hall
building was hidden behind some hills to the right. A guide pointed
out some things about the view, including rows of hills in the
distance which I was sure were being somehow exaggerated by some
atmospheric effect. I was here with a group of rather adventurous
young people (including myself and Shaina) who were now in line
waiting to be shot across the lake (and presumably also over a few
rows of hills to the bay on the other side, which presumably had some
contraption that would catch us). Shaina was talking to some guy in
line who was complaining about something in his life, responding that
what she had gone through was a lot worse and that his problems
weren't really problems. I butted in to say "she says that to
everybody."

We were on a road trip with a medium-sized group of people who I
didn't know all that well, some of them in their 50s or 60s, camping
somewhere several hours west west north of home. There was a shelter,
but we had been having a picnic so most of our stuff was strewn about
in the open when it unexpectedly started pouring. "Save the garbage!"
someone yelled, because they didn't want the garbage bins filling with
water and spilling garbage everywhere. I ran out to try to help, but
someone else got to the garbage bins before I did, and then I was just
standing around all wet trying to think if there was anything else I
should grab before running back to the shelter.
