Creeper tunnel - 2018-02-08 - Entry 1512 - TOGoS's Journal

Sara and I were Minecrafting last night and at one point I took a stroll through the creeper regeneration room to take some torches out. As I later found out, it's not so much a 'room' as it is a series of tunnels that connect up with our other tunnels in a few places. Something about the division of tunnels between safe and lit sections vs dark is really cool. Like those dark ones are secret shortcuts between parts of the mine that you would normally take a the lit route.

Also exploring that part of the mine has reminded me of the feeling of playing Dungeon Master for the first time.

Feelings associated with memories like that are weird. It's like them being off the main path from how I usually think preserves the feeling that goes with them. How does that work? Is it a different set of neurons firing? A different pattern of interactions between neurons across my brain that essentially is that feeling?

Me:
feelings are weird
like when me and Sara were playing Minecraft the other night, there's this section of our mine that for some reason reminds me of the feeling of playing Dungeon Master the first time.

Playing Dungeon Master was an experience I shared with my dad, but he probably doesn't have the same feeling associated with that.
Nobody else in the world does.

Fizz:
aw yeah

Me:
And there's some distinction between the experience, what actually happened (we hadn't figured out the controls yet and spent some time bonking into walls in the dark and then starved to death in front of a door with a mummy behind it), and the feelings I associate with it. so there's some real distinct thing that is that feeling.

Fizz:
11
yeah
is it the same thing as nostalgia?
i think it is

Me:
maybe

Fizz:
because the feeling only exists now, when you're remembering it, i think but that doesn't matter
yeah, it's crazy how strong and distinct those feelings are
it's surprising that they can be so distinct
and yeah, it seems like no one else could have anything very similar to each one

In other news, I spent most of Tuesday watching the Falcon Heavy launch and chatting to Fizz about it. We took some screenshots of Elon's car as it orbited Earth. This is not one of them:

Also Sara had a guy named "Joe Keller" come over and look at our kitchen and listen to our ideas about how we want to remodel it and how that could work.
