I went to the model train expo at the Alliant Energy Center with Fizz and his parents and Logan. I found myself unimpressed with the model railroad layouts (which was also the case the last time I'd gone with them, 20ish years ago), and realized it was because the track systems were all planar. In many cases they were basically ovals. There was only one layout in the main room (not counting a couple undecorated ones that had a simple spiral up and a spiral down) one with a track passing over another track, and those two tracks were not connected.

One of the layouts had very nice decorations but that didn't make up for the boring-ness of the track itself.

On our way out I found a small layout in the hall with maybe a figure-8.

Then we went to Parkway Family Restaurant.
