2003-02-26 (Wednesday) - Entry 285 - TOGoS's Journal

I remember having a couple of dreams. First, there was one where I was with a group of people and we were standing around this canyon with a big river at the bottom. Some crazy people nearby that we were talking to might have been jumping in. Then one of our guys fell in, so we had to rescue him somehow (I guess. I don't remember actually rescuing him). In the other dream I was sitting at my computer 'brausing the freeweb', and Adam was telling me what to click on... It was kinda weird.

After Math today I formatted my windows machine drives and re-installed Win2k. Actually I unplugged the old 2GB drive (which I theorize is what's giving me trouble as it's the only thing that's remained constant across all the formats and installs I've done). So hopefully it won't crash like that anymore... Hopefully...

I managed to get all my main stuff (Win2k itself, Reason, Putty, Winamp, drivers) re-installed within 6 hours, so I guess it warn't to opainful. I had to fight wih it a little bit (re-formatting my drive) before it'd stop saying "Invalid Partition Table".

Meanwhile, Adam's hard drive crashed. What a coincidence, eh? I advised him to try turning it off for a while, and after dinner (Asian bar! Yay! Fried rice!) he came back, turned it on, and voila!

I also spent the day thinking about how I should structure the new SpookShare databases... Yeah.

Winamp seems to like to play the same few songs for a long time... Then, eventually, it plays a different bunch. Lately it played 'Depeche Mode - Stripped' twice, and it really seems to like 'Bryan Adams - Heaven', too. Good songs, I admit, but why? Maybe it's just coincidental. But I get the feeling that it's not quite random.

I have a very busy desktop. You hardly ever see my desktop. It's usually piled with eb browsers, winamp, and terminal windows. Cluttered. The way I like it. I think work better cluttered. It's relaxing. Like that dream I had where Adam brought book shelves and things from home.

I worked with Doom levels so much that, for small distances, it's easier for me to think in terms of Doom pixels than feet or meters. For instance, I was just working on entry 0 and I said that a place in a dream I had had a long time ago seemed like the hallways had a 128 by 128 cross-section.

It seems a little bit strange to me that many of my MP3s are from before the new doke. I mean I had them on the other hard drive when I couldn't read the big one, anymore. Like 'J. Swallow'. I think that one is from before the great hard drive format.

As I said in my 'aboutme2' english paper:

It seems to me like I've been using Linux longer than I actually have. I guess it just seems strange that only in 2000 I was playing Half-Life and using Napster and Geocities, totally oblivious to so much that I know about now. Yeah, Half-Life was a fun game, and I made some pretty cool levels for it. And much of that was before I was even using Napster. Because I remember I was listening to 'Taking my Time' (by Boston) on the radio while I was making this one really cool level with all my own graphics for wall textures. But I couldn't figure out how to connect levels together and my mazes always got too big for a single level, so I pretty much gave up on that.

wget still seems to be working away downloading a freesite. It's been going since before I re-installed win2k. And since then I also downloaded the propaganda site.

It's 22:24 right now. Denny's over here because he's in the process of moving because 'his roommate's a butthead'. I'm working on this entry and entry 0 at the same time. And listening to music ('Naive - Joy Is', at the moment). Denny's playing Ghost Recon, and Denny and Adam are both talking on different phones to different people.

Multi-Tasking... With The Duke

Ah. Now for the Doom test. LAst night Doom crashed my machine... Yup. Still does.

I was just talking at Adam about the history of my computers. Like how the only part of Ryan's machine that I hadn't replaced was the case. Unless you count the monitor and the keyboard. I really only bought it for the monitor, anyway, though.

And I was talking about the old keyboard that now site in front of MP3 player. The one we've had since I was 7 or whatever. And I think that's the same old monitor we've had the whole time, too. And these speaker's that I'm listening to Starf*ckers on right now we've had since we first got the sound card. It came with Stellar 7.

but they do not make nice mice

I bet standing on one foot while brushing your teeth is good excersize. It's really tiring.

Kids just love to brush! Kids just love to brush! They love it. They love it. They love it. They love it. Kid just love to brush.

G'day, folks. We hope you enjoyed the show as much as we enjoyed bringing it to you.
