Monkeys like company - 2007-01-17 2:30 - Entry 887 - TOGoS's Journal

And fancy wording can be useful, the downside of it being that using it too much can make you sound like a stuffed shirt.

Still haven't gotten around to detailing the ski trip. Mostly that's OK, I think, since the main points of it got documented either in pictures or in last night's entry or got spilled out to some friends of mine. Maybe Boars and Snakes don't get along so well after all, etc.

A-Day's been back and forth and stopping by to visit quite a bit recently. Twice today on his way to and from Milwaukee to get some interview clothes as he's looking into a company called "Plexus". I don't know much about how his 'to' visit was, since I was at work, but for his 'from' visit we headed over to Walton Haus and hung around with Julia and Mary for a bit. It was one of those occasions where we all found ourselves in the same gear and could have talked about everything all night if it weren't for tired, school, and work in the morning. I don't remember many of the specifics of what we talked about, but I think the hanging out itself is worth thinking about. I would've liked to make one of those conversation graphs that YC and I made at the Union one night, to look back on and pick up and expand later, to help keep track of where we've been and hint us toward other topics to explore. That we talked so much and didn't get it documented makes me feel like I've used these ideas up somewhat (they were fresh and fun to talk about at the time, but trying to 'do it right' later on just won't be as much fun) without making the most of them. I know that's a bit silly, though. Not everything in life needs to be looked at as a software problem (my brain has come to be wired in such a way that it tries to make them to be). The interactions we have with other people are what seem to make everything else worth doing.

Anyway, this has all inspired be to get on with Junko2. The idea is to make hanging out online just as rewarding as hanging out in Fizz's basement. You won't get hugs or spilled candle wax, but you'll have some pretty neat digital artifacts that you can look back on, build on, and make use of in the future. I want to give us some fun, interesting, and constructive new ways to interact with other people. And it'll synchronize drivers (that's an A-Day feature) and come with a highly useful and re-usable component framework, too. Because interactions with other developers are also important.

Oh, and that Multiverse thing got opened up. I downloaded the demo. I should check it out. But right now I need to get to sleep so I can wake up and play Secret of Mana in the morning and not pass out while at work.

I got the camera in the mail with some 'fix plz I've a warranty and a receipt' forms. That I printed out using the laser printer (woohoo!) that my parents bought on Saturday. Things change when you leave for a week, they say. And Widen's not out of chocolate yet, so I'm feeling pretty good. Let's see if I can remember to get some of these tax forms sorted out in the morning. Maybe I'll just bring them all to work...
