23-B-Q-E-G-B - 2005-07-06 13:21 - Entry 680 - TOGoS's Journal

I left at about 7:00 or so last night. Dad and I had looked over the map and found a route for me to take after I got off the bike path in Dodgeville - 23 south, B west, Q south, E west, G south, and then B west right into Platteville. The bike path portion of the trip was predictable and uneventful. I stopped to drink some water in Riley, drank out a waterfountain in Mt. Horeb, and then (hours later) when I got to Ridgeway, it had gotten pretty dark so I stopped and bought a Pepsi and ate gorp and took a break for a while. I layed down and used pants fer a pillow. Then I got up and duct-taped my flashlight to my helmet for going through the darker parts of the path, with the switch over on the side so I could turn it on and off easily. From there I pretty much biked to Dodgeville and turned south on 23 and rode through town until I came to B. B and Q went as expected - I didn't see a single car on the road. But when I came to the end of Q, there was no E. Just 39. I figured maybe I had missed E so I got on 39 and rode west into Linden, where county hwy X went off to the southwest. So I got on X and things looked good. I thought I could see Platteville off in the distance with the smokestack and all, so I kept riding that way. And finally I came to hwy G. Which was really nice because that meant I was getting close. Rode on G south. I was getting tired and a little bit spooked every time a nearby animal made a noise. Kept riding, kept riding, this doesn't seem like a big enough highway to be G anymore. No....eventually I got to the end of it, and the sign didn't say G. It said something obscure that I didn't recognise. And the sign on the highway that I had come to (this was a T) said "county line rd". I wasn't sure which county, though. Earlier it had been really clear and I could see all the stars, but now it was pretty hazy and I couldn't figure out which way was north. So I guessed that this was between Iowa and Grant and took it which way I thought was south until I got to another road that turned off to the right. And I took that through a little town with about 5 houses and a bar (from what I saw of it). And came to "highway rd". I stopped in front of the bar, had a snack, and dozed off a bit. And when I finally decided to get up, the sky cleared just long enough for me to find the north star. And I got on "highway rd" and rode south toward highway A, which I didn't know where the heck it was. Looking past the sign, though, there was another which said "Platteville, 9 miles" and "80". Haha. I had mistaken "RD" for "80". Well I rode toward P-ville as the sky started turning blue again. Rode into town, shone my light on Fizz's head and said "Let me in f00l", becase the door was all locked and stuff :P

So it was 4:43 as I came in and talked to Fizz a bit and brought my bike into the kitchen where bikes go and went to sleep on a couch. I had a dream involving some Civilization game and in which I was on a church trip to Platteville. Abby and Brie were along and right at the beginning of the trip they got in a big argument about integrals and never let up. I was following directions about how to get somewhere on the 151 and some rivers (151 had water running all along it, too). I got to the destination and next the instructions said to go into the basement of this pawn shop where some guy would kill you. I realized that I should have looked farther ahead in the instructions from the beginning. Now I had to go way back up the Mississippi, etc to get home.

Then I played Crapi 16 and came to the libvrary to write this.
